MY FINAL THOUGHTS
What do you guys think about this so far? Would you try it? To some, SPAM may be nostalgic and quite common while to others they simply don't like it. Personally for me, my mom always made me and my younger brother SPAM fried rice when we were younger, only difference is that it was the "original" flavor.

Before trying the product I thought it would be a smokey flavor since "tocino=bacon in Spanish" but I was so wrong. It is actually sweet, not sugar sweet but kind of a sweet-slightly salty taste. With my demo you can see that I only used about half of the can to make  a fried rice meal for 4. The great thing about fried rice is that you can add anything to it that you want! For me, it has always been a meat, eggs, rice and Chinese oyster sauce (soy sauce can work as well). This Spam Tocino actually fried up pretty nicely despite looking quite soft in the can.

Overall I would have to say that I'm impressed. I know that Spam Tocino is a big seller at PhilAmFood and now I know why! If you're not familiar with this company, they are a Filipino/Asian goods supermarket located in Jersey City and also have a full-operating website where you can purchase goods online! How convenient is that! All links will be down below if you're interested in learning more!

I would definitely re-purchase this product again, it adds such a unique taste to my fried rice recipe. I can definitely see this as being great with sushi as well. Just rice, spam tocino and seaweed! That's how the Hawaiians do it! Until next time, hope you enjoyed this week's installment of FOOD FRIDAY!

  2. Very creative! I haven't eaten Spam since I was a kid. I use to love it with just some cheese on top. Fried rice is one of my favorite things to eat. I will definitely have to try this. I have not seen this particular Spam yet but I am going to look for it in the grocery store next time. My husband loves Spam so I bet he would enjoy this recipe too. Thanks for sharing! I love it.

  8. Thank you for the description of the Tocino flavor. I thought it would have had a heavy smoky flavor. Fried rice is a comforting food and I am always looking for new flavor combinations.

  10. Spam was a staple in my home growing up, but I am not a huge fan. However, in fried rice might be a great way to enjoy it. Allyson Bossie
