Final Thoughts
Wasn't this such a fun haul? I was so excited when these came! Though I do live in a very diverse neighborhood in NYC, I have actually never tried any of these before. One item that may seem familiar if you're a long-time viewer are the "Quake Bars". I actually reviewed the other variety of Chocolate with Vanilla Cream Inside. I definitely loved those and was so excited to try this variety too! Let's start with the beginning and we'll slowly go down the list, how does that sound? I'm excited!
The first item on our list today is the "Jack N' Jill Brand Chippy BBQ Corn Chips". These actually don't taste anything like the American kind you can find at the deli or supermarkets. These are definitely more subtle and instead of a hickory smokey flavor, I found it to be more like "ranch". I did appreciate that these weren't over-fried as well as not being too salty for my tastes. My brother as soon as we opened them up was in love! He actually took it with him to his room as I continued testing other snacks.
Secondly we have the "Regent Brand Golden Sweet Corn" snack. Yeah sounds really interesting isn't it? It is actually corn balls that actually taste like "sweet corn" or as I call it, "corn soup". It is really unique how they got that exact flavor out of my beloved corn soup into a snack. My dad definitely enjoyed this one for its unique taste. It is sweet but not so much like a sugar-sweet more of a corn-sweet taste. Very nice snack.
Next up we have the Yuki & Love Japanese Style Red Bean Mochi. Now I have had mochi before, both freshly prepared as well as a packaged version. This one does not have to be refrigerated and it says that it is best served at room temperature. I definitely found it pretty true to the handmade/fresh mochi. It still satisfies my mochi craving as something chewy and slightly sweet while being at an affordable cost. Most mochis packaged are around $4 but this one is only $2 and was not bad at all. It works out very well with the red bean paste inside and isn't overpowering at all.
Next we have one of my dad and I's all time favorites. It's the Jane Jane Prepared Shredded Squid! We usually get the "hot" variety (which really isn't hot at all) but decided to go with "original" this time around. I really loved the true taste of this snack. Though it is squid and some of you may cringe at that remark but I love it and its always been part of my childhood. I've grown up eating it and still love it today. It has a nice chew to it, almost like beef jerky and no it isn't "ocean-tasting" at all. The flavor is definitely spot on.
Now it's time for the Jack N' Jill Quake Bars in the Chocolate Variety, yes double chocolate on chocolate! My brother absolutely loves chocolate! His favorites are "Devil Dogs" and "Yodels". These reminded me much of a brownie as it is almost like "cake" with fudge inside. Definitely very nice and I love that they are individually wrapped. It makes it just so easy to bring with you on the go. If you want to see my review for the "Chocolate w/Vanilla Variety, CLICK HERE".
Last but not least, here is a favorite of my moms. You might have guessed it, yes its the Keaw Brand Crispy Rolls-Coconut Flavored! I really do enjoy that these are easy to eat and not super long/large that most are. The first bite is amazing and you can taste the nice flaky slightly-sweet coconut taste of these. I have never tried this brand prior to this but am definitely going to be back for more! The bag makes it easy to bring into the office or to leave on your coffee table. I really love any type of crispy rolls/egg rolls and these are no different, absolutely a recommendation from me!
Overall what did you guys think? Would you try any of these? Have you tried any before? I am so excited that I was able to try these great snacks out from PhilAm Food. A big thank you to them for sending these yummies out to me! I would say that my favorite out of the bunch is definitely the Golden Sweet Corn Snack and the BBQ Chippy.
Though I really do enjoy them all, I will definitely be picking a couple more bags of those up! They really are quite unique and I encourage you all to check them out! They could be found at your local Asian Supermarket or conveniently on the PhilAm Food website! The shipping from them is absolutely fantastic! Their customer service is also great as well. If you aren't a fan of their Facebook Page, I highly encourage you to do so, they almost always have a great discount/coupon going on! Also you can see all the great new products they have coming soon! And if you're in the the Jersey City area, check out their store! Hope you enjoyed this week's FOOD FRIDAY!

*I received these item complimentary in return for my 100% honest review, all words are my own.*
Yay! I have tried that brand of Mochi, too. I agree that they have a nice light flavor.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we can convince American stores to start carrying onigiri and other good Japanese combi store food. :-)
Lots of cheap food to try! What a collection, enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI could go for that Sweet Corn stuff! I do love unusual foods and my daughter and I used to shop in speciality markets for unusual things like these. I DO at times worry what is in them and how regulated they are but then I remember our food here in the USA is not that regulated anyway and none of these are sold without passing OUR USDA regulations - sorry I went on a tangent lol - suffice to say I would try this!
ReplyDeleteI've had the Japanese Red Bean Moji. It is delicious! They all look delicious though. I love Japanese candy!
ReplyDeleteI have never tried these before. The Sweet Corn looks yummy. Now I am off to find me a snack!
ReplyDeleteThese all look great! I wish I was more of a snacker... I will have to give in to try them!
ReplyDeleteNever tried any of those, never heard of them but I'm wanting that sweet corn!
ReplyDeleteThese snacks look good even thought I haven't even heard of them. The sweet corn and chocolate look good.
ReplyDeleteWe have lots of Chippy and Sweet Corn here ( lol ) but I'm not a big fan ... kids love it though. I'll have to check out the Japanese stores here for the Yuki & Love Japanese Style Red Bean Mochi. I LOVE mochi and I always have them when I get the chance.
ReplyDeleteshredded squid??! Eew! But the sweet corn popped chips or whatever looks good! I'd try those.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of any of these, but I'll be willing to try some. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI have tried some of these snack and yup, they are really good. The BBQ Chippy is not too salty, my kids love it.
ReplyDeleteAs for the Quake Bar, I think chocolate is the only flavor I tried. I will check out the other flavors when I go back to the Asian Store.
ReplyDeleteOooohh, I would love to try the Quake bars! I love chocolate!
ReplyDeleteThese all look amazing! I would try every single one of them. I love to find different snacks, but unfortunately I live in an area that does not have many options, so I have to look online. Great posting!!! Can't wait to see more yumminess :)
ReplyDeleteHow interesting! My kids would probably get a kick out of trying these, except I'm not sure they'd touch the squid.
ReplyDeleteI love chippy! I used to eat them when I was a kid...
ReplyDeleteWOW! I have never heard of any of these and am always intrigued with snacks worldwide! Thanks for your honest review and while I would love to try them all, I think the shredded squid intrigued me most of all! The red bean mochi sound very interesting too!
ReplyDeleteI would like to try the Jack N' Jill Chippy-BBQ Corn Chips! :)

These snacks looks delicious and great. I have never tasted these before. I just love the Quake chocolate bars in particular, which looks so yummy and I would love to put my hand on all these snacks for sure.
ReplyDeleteI haven't had the chance to try any of these snacks. These actually sounds appetizing Keaw Brand Crispy Rolls-Coconut Flavored. I need to buy some of these to try.
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to try these snacks! Thank you for the review, photos and descriptions! I will definitely check out their website and may order some goodies for myself! Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteAh this sounds so much fun! I live in Chicago and should totally do this :)
ReplyDeleteI have not heard of this company before!! All of these look like delicious snacks to enjoy. My kids love to try foods from other countries this would be a great way for them to try them out!
ReplyDeleteThe chips in the first picture look a lot like American Fritos., do they taste similar? Maybe someday I'll be brave enough to try more international foods. I'm just now coming around to onions and mushrooms in my recipes. My husband is much more brave when it comes to food. He'd probably try the squid too! I'm glad it reminds you of your childhood.
ReplyDeleteI could go with most all of these. They sound good.
ReplyDeleteEverything here is new to me! I would love to try the mochi - that is a new word for me! I like the corn chips, they remind of something I would for a dip that I would make. YUM!
ReplyDeleteThose Quake Bars look delicious. Never tried any of these http://www.parentinghealthy.com/
ReplyDeleteThese all look great
ReplyDeleteThese foods sound and look so good but I don't think I would try the squid. I would love to try the Yuki & Love Japanese Style Red Bean Mochi, the Keaw Brand Crispy Rolls Coconut Flavored and the Regent Brand Golden Sweet Corn. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI love a good food haul, and it looks like you got a really nice selection of edibles. Out of all the things featured here, two things really caught my eye. The Sweet Corn looks like something I would like to snack on, and the crispy coconut sticks is something that I would really want to try!
ReplyDeleteThis is quite the selection of snacks, it's a snack palooza. All of them looks so good! I would absolutely love to try the Golden Sweet Corn snack, I love snacks that are made from corn very much and the Japanese Style Red Bean Mochi, just because I recently discovered the Mochi icecream and I just can't get enough of it.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Rally
These all look awesome. I'd love to try the sweet corn one!
ReplyDeleteI think my son would love the mochi. I would like everything but the squid,
ReplyDeleteThese are great snacks compilation. I'd love to try them all.
