Food Friday Week 1: Phil Am Foods-Jack Jill Quake Bars Vanilla

Hi everyone!! Welcome to my first ever Food Friday! I plan to showcase one food product, a haul or even my dinner or something of that sort every Friday! I love food and exploring new and different cuisines. I hope you all enjoy!!

Woo hoo! Package delivery! What is it??
It's a product review opportunity from Phil Am Food!
Let's see what's inside shall we? :)

It's Jack Jill Quake Bars! In the vanilla variety!

The nutrition facts are labeled on the back. It is a product of the Philippines.

This is what it looks like when you open it inside! You get 10 individually wrapped (always a plus in my book) little cupcake types of desert. It pretty much reminded me of a chocolate Twinkie upon first impression, let's see what the inside looks like and see how it compares!

It's a bit difficult to see but there is a good proportion of chocolate cake to vanilla filling. It is a decent size, fits in the size of your palm. The lighting didn't work well as it reflected in the aluminium backing and the chocolate color of the cake.

My Review
Upon first impression these looked like rectangular shaped Chocolate Twinkies with the Vanilla cream inside. It has a cupcake/paper liner around it so it is a bit less messy in my opinion. The picture on the package looks delicious and very creamy. To my surprise it wasn't really as pictured, there is a lot less cream (thank goodness!), it is a bit more chocolate tasting, almost fudge like (not too thick or intense at all) similar to a Hostess Devil Dog. The cream was more marshmallow-like, not so much of a whipped cream consistency which was also a nice delight. I really enjoy the nice proportioned size of these wrapped cakes and how convenient it would to bring it with you on the go. It would be a great breakfast or snack item!

My brother (age 13) absolutely loves them! He is very loyal to the Hostess Devil Dog, Yodels and those types of products but loved these just a little bit more! One cake is equal it 160 calories which I don't think is too horrible, you will feel very satisfied after having just one. It definitely soothes my chocolate cravings! I give this product two thumbs up and would definitely recommend it to others and repurchase this as well. You probably haven't heard of this brand but now you have! You have to go and try it, you just have to ;) You'll see what great food you've been missing!

On the Phil Am Food Website there are a ton of different products of the Philippines as well as many other Asian products (food as well as others). The website is great for satisfying your Asian food cravings and so much more! So if you don't have any local Asian markets around or there isn't enough variety for you, this website offers online shipping! It's wonderful and is always very quick to deliver! It's always fun to try out something new. Check out their website as well as their Facebook page for new product releases, coupon codes and if you need any help! They've also been featured on the Travel Channel as part of Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern! This company is great, very friendly service and always there when you have questions.

  1. I was gonna say.. these kind of look like they would taste like ho-hos. :) i don't think i've ever seen or tried the hostess devil dogs.. but they're all hostess! and i think the last time i ate any hostess products was back when i was in high school or middle school. makes me a bit nostalgic though.

  2. When I was pregnant with my daughter all I wanted to eat were little cakes filled with cream like these. They didn't even have to be Twinkies, anything would do! I have never tried any desserts from the Philippines but these definitely look pretty tasty. I love seeing what products are popular in other countries since all we see here in the US are the basics you can find in every single grocery store. These look yummy!

  4. Those quake bars are one of my favorites - they're actually pretty good, moist, and chewy. If you enjoyed 'em, you'll prolly like Fudgee ( hopefully you receive the product in one of your future subscriptions ) :D

  7. I agree, these definitely look like hostess products. I guess packaged cakes are popular everywhere? They do look good though, and I kind of want one now!

  8. I love a guilty little Hostess or Little Debbie snack product, and I'd definitely give these a try if I came across them. As for Asian snacks, I love Pocky (the dark chocolate with almonds)!

  17. I don't think I've ever had any philapino food. We go to an Asian store occassionally as my dh loves some specific noodles that they carry. Whew they are hot though. This looks delicious. I'd try these for sure.

  20. You have no idea how much I lit up at the word "twinkie". Do you remember when they stopped producing them temporarily? I'm so glad they are back, but these sound even better especially with me being a chocolate fan. Keep writing, I'll be back to visit and read more.
