Food Friday: Quorn Foods (Chikn' Nuggets and Naked Chikn' Cutlets)

Hi everyone! Welcome to Food Friday Week 4! This week its about Quorn Foods! If you didn't know what that is, it's a Soy-Free, Meatless option to all sorts of different foods! Basically Vegetarian meals. They actually have a lot of different varieties but I actually picked up the Chikn' Nuggets and Naked Chikn' Cutlets to try out myself. Let me just say this first, I have never tried any type of "fake meat" or anything vegetarian of this sort. It was quite the experience I might say. Let's get started!

Let's See The Products!
Now let's see the nutritional facts and how to cook them!

Now let's get to cooking and see the final product!

My Review
Overall I was pretty surprised with these products. Quorn products are made from mycoprotein which is a nutritionally healthy protein source that is both meat-free and naturally low in saturated fats and high in fiber. I have never heard of this before but I was eager to try it out. Their claim is that their products have the taste, appearance and texture of meat. In regard to looking like meat, the chikn' nuggets looked pretty similar to traditional chicken nuggets but the tenders not so much.

Also with taste, I absolutely would repurchase the chik'n nuggets but the naked tenders, I didn't really enjoy them. I ate them with sauces (BBQ, hot sauce and ketchup) as I would with regular chicken but the naked cutlets just didn't cut it for me. On the other hand, the chik'n nuggets did taste pretty "real" for me, especially when used with sauce. With the tenders, nope..it was pretty dry, a bit limp and just did not taste like chicken at all. Maybe it would have been better with cheese and more sauces like a chicken parm type of dish but as its own, no thanks.

I actually cooked the chik'n nuggets in the toaster oven and the naked cutlets in the microwave. The nuggets were relatively "crispy" and similar "crunch" to the typical chicken nugget. The tenders on the other hand, like microwaves do, it just got softer but the appearance did not change at all (from the before photo). My younger brother actually didn't mind the chik'n nuggets, he thought they were reasonable with sauce used.

Overall I think that this company is pretty great and I am excited to find their other products at other retailers, I found these at my local Target along with the "meat grounds", sausage links and sausage patties. From their website you can see that they truly do have a lot of different varieties which look pretty promising. From me, the chik'n nuggets are a win and the naked chik'n cutlets don't cut it for me.

I also loved eating it with a slice of bread!
It was pretty close to a chicken sandwich!

  1. How delicious the nuggets look. I love fixing chicken nugget sandwiches on cold days for a hot lunch without all the work. I will check out Quorn products because protein is very important in our diet and because the nuggets just look so good.

  2. So I am a vegetarian and I have always loved the substitutes for some basic meat items, i.e.: hot dogs and veggie burgers. I have never tried this brand before, but a brand… I believe called Amy's… is very good as well. I have even tricked my fiancee, albeit for only a moment, but as a meat eater, he didn't HATE them he said! Even for people who eat meat, it's a nice break on the body to find something soy for a once a week lunch or something. Thanks for the review!

  3. Omg I can't believe I'm actually reading a post about quorn lol.... My all time best friend is a vegetarian and she talks about this stuff all the time!!! She has even tried to trick me into eating it.... Gotta say though being a meat lover, these veggie "meat" options aren't that bad....

  4. I think this is also good for kids. The sandwich idea is so clever. Instead of using meat you can use this product as an alternative and make kids eat it. I am not a vegetarian but i could not just say no to veggie meat

  5. It is helpful that there are so many products out there to accommodate people who do not eat meat. I feel like as long as there is a dipping sauce and it is prepared in the oven or on the stove top, "faux meat" can be very tasty. But I'm still not willing to give up my delicious steaks.

  6. That's a tough one, I'm all for meat and real meat products. I don't eat chicken nuggets like this, I normally make homemade real ones. But this would be a simple fast something the kids would might like. But we're all about real meat, so I don't know it would be the same honestly.

  7. This is conflicting. The fact that it is made from a protein source meat replacement makes me question the content of the nugget. I have not previously heard of this brand, but am curious about what the market is like for such products. Great review!

  8. I'm not a vegetarian, and I do eat meat... but lately I've been eating more meat substitutes such as seitan or wheat proteins. I haven't heard of this brand, but I'd love to see what else they make and give it a try. Just depends on the price though as usually it's quite more expensive than just buying meat!

  9. The naked tenders aren't my favorite. I do eat meat, but I do try meatless products every so often. I sometimes use these meatless products to make dips or something else. It's very interesting to try new products. I've never seen this brand but will look it up.

  13. My son is a vegetarian so we tend to buy meatless substitutes or use other ingredients. I have not heard of Quorn before your review. The nuggets look better than all of the other brands of nuggets we've tried. I will definitely be looking for these at the store.

  14. I would love to try this. I hate eating real meat. I feel badly for ethical reasons, but I still do for convenience. This looks like a convenient and tasty alternative.
